Digital Twin

An industry 4.0 technology 'Digital Twin',  is a digital representation of a physical object or system. In more detail it’s a virtual model of physical product, process, system or service that can be examined , altered and tested without interacting within real world and avoiding negative consequences.  Though the concept of digital twin arised since 2002, it’s Internet Of Things, artificial intelligence and software analytics that made it to implement.

Digital twin pairs the physical and virtual world and optimize business performance through analysis of data and monitoring of systems to prevent issues before they even occur and prevent downtime. Also it helps to develop new opportunities and plan for the future by using simulations. By research it was found that, the concept of digital twin will reduce development cost by 50% for the next generation of machines.

The concept  of Digital twin technology can be applied across different industries to solve many  challenges. It’s possible to find solutions for manufacturing process improvements, product lifecycle reduction and product development.

How it works?

mart components that use sensors are distributed throughout to gather data about real time status, working conditions etc. For eg, if it’s a garment factory, it might collect data regarding thickness, colour, quality, speed etc.

These data are received and processed by cloud based system where all these smart components are connected to. By analyzing these data, new opportunities can be discovered and  failures can be eliminated with in the virtual world before transforming it to business.
